Disney typically does a good job about making the prices for every single item pretty clear but on occasion, a quick price check might be necessary. For instance, Disney is currently offering 50% discount on most of its Disney 100 merchandise which may leave guests curious as to the final cost of the item catching their eye. This new scannable feature should help answer those questions.
How it Works
Spotted this past weekend in Los Feliz Five and Dime on Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure, a scannable QR code deep links you to a section inside of the Disneyland mobile app which opens up a camera and allows you to scan barcodes to check the price that will ring up at the registers. The system worked a little slowly for us but it was reliable.
Alternatively, you can skip scanning the QR code and opening the following URLs directly on your mobile browser:

- Emporium: https://disneyland.app.link/PRICECHECKDLREMPORIUM
Here’s a few screenshots of the process in action.
Thoughts
It should be interesting to see if Disney expands this feature in the future. For one, this feature would give guests more autonomy to find an answer quickly without having to get in line or look for a Cast Member. Of course, this could also be seen a cost saving measure to reduce staffing.
To go a step further, Disney could conceivably remove specific prices on their price tags leaving you with just barcode that would requite a scan to find the price. This would not only make guests more comfortable with using their phones to scan items but also possibly encourage them to use Mobile Checkout.
A more pessimistic view is that removing printed prices on everything would give Disney the opportunity to more easily fluctuate prices on their merch items — much in the same way they do currently for their theme park tickets. We don’t love this prospect but it certainly wouldn’t seem out of character with a lot of the decisions that Disney had made lately to maximize profits.
See it for Yourself
Price Check is available in limited capacity currently at select shops around the Disneyland Resort.
