The Black Spire Outpost on Batuu in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is teeming with secrets and mysteries and for those Force-sensitive folks who will require a custom-built lightsaber, Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers is the place to be.

Hidden in plain sight in the heart of the village, this covert operation runs a fake scraps yard front to keep its secret warehouse hidden from the First Order. Dozens of possible combinations are possible for building your lightsaber but you’ll have to connect with one of the Gatherers who work at the location to begin your journey.

Build Your Own Lightsaber

Once you’ve met with one Savi’s Gatherers you’ll require a secret phrase to gain access to the hidden workshop to begin a three-step process to craft your blade.

The experience area is limited to the builder and one Guest—at least one person in the party must be age 14 or older. The Builder’s Table is a large oval-shaped work-station assembled from ancient pieces salvaged from across the galaxy that can accommodate up to 14 builders at a time.

Assembling Your Lightsaber

Identify Your Theme

Start by choosing one of 4 available hilt themes and receive a cloisonné pin to identify your selection. Themes include:

Peace and Justice: Salvaged scraps from fallen Jedi temples and crashed starships in these Republic-era designs honor the galaxy’s former guardians.
Power and Control: Originally forged by dark side warriors, this style features rumored remnants from the Sith homeworld and abandoned temples.
Elemental Nature: This theme embodies the Force—an energy created by all living things, like Brylark trees, Cartusion whale bones and Rancor teeth.
Protection and Defense: Hilt materials bear mysterious motifs and inscriptions that reconnect users with the ancient wellspring of the Force.

Select Your Kyber Cyrstal

The heart of any lightsaber is the kyber crystal. Savi’s Gatherers have an assortment of cyrstals in red, blue, green or violet. White and yellow crystals are far more rare but word has it that you can barter with Dok-Ondar at his shop for one of these two rarer crystals.

Assemble Your Hilt

Depending on your theme and cloisonné pin, you’ll receive a box with several parts. Unused parts are returned Savi’s inventory. These are not included with your lightsaber package.

4 sleeves (pick 2)
2 emitters (pick 1)
2 pommel caps (pick 1)
2 sets of activation plates and switches (pick 1 set)

Once your hilt is assembled, the Gatherers will connect a 31” lightsaber blade so that you’re ready for anything the galaxy puts in your path! The color of your blade is determined by your kyber crystal, if you change out your kyber crystal at a later point, it will also change the color of your blade.

Just who are these Gatherers? This shop packs a lot more than meets the eye. The Gatherers who inhabit this dwelling have dedicated their lives to restoring balance in the galaxy by passing on their knowledge of the Force and the ancient ways of the Jedi.

Over the years, they have amassed a great collection of kyber crystals and saber parts from around the galaxy. As “keepers of the Force,” they have passed down their knowledge from generation to generation, striving to keep the flame of hope alive. Savi was one of the original Gatherers and a friend to Lor San Tekka (whom we met briefly at the beginning of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”). Like Lor, Savi was a believer in the ideals of the Jedi Order and helped to pass on his knowledge of Jedi lore. He created a salvage business as a front to hide his clandestine mission of guiding the next generation of Force wielders and helping them create their unique lightsabers.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge also opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in nearly identical form on August 29, 2019.

Know Before You Go!

Now through June 23, guests may only visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with pre-existing reservations which are now sold out. NO STANDBY QUEUE WILL BE AVAILABLE. General admission into the land AFTER June 23 may require (based on how busy the park is) a virtual queueing system “Boarding Pass” booked either through Guest Services or via the Disneyland app.
