It’s our first full pictorial of the year and boy is it a whopper! Pixar Pier transformations are now well under way as the former Paradise Pier land and attractions undergo a redo to bring in Pixar characters. Meanwhile, typical winter refurbs fill the parks with closures all around including Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, Grizzly River Run, and more plus all of the closures in Paradise Pier.

We’ll get another look at the construction for Galaxy’s Edge including a new set of trading cards offering teases for the new land plus pieces of the land map.

In Downtown Disney, there’s a whole bunch of action as D-Street, Build-a-Bear, and Ridemakerz have all closed to make way for a new shop and two new dining concepts, respectively. Of course, a full merch run for you today plus a whole lot more in this pictorial. ENJOY!

Pixar Pier

You might have heard by now that Paradise Pier at Disney California Adventure is becoming Pixar Pier. The entire land is receiving a revamp to incorporate several of Disney-Pixar’s most popular characters.

Pixar Pier is expected to be ready for summer 2018.

Toy Story Mania and King Triton’s Carousel are the only thing still opening along this entire back part of the park. Meanwhile, thematic elements are being removed from all existing structures.

Incredicoaster

Incredicoaster is the new name for the now-closed California Screamin’. This new experience will feature a mid-century-modern-style loading area reminiscent of the Parr family home plus there will be new character moments in the queue and on the attraction plus a new look for the ride vehicles.

The loop has been completely removed for refurbishment.

Incredicoaster Concept Art

The new double P icon for Pixar Pier.

Mickey’s Fun Wheel

Mickey’s Fun Wheel will have a new look, with each of the 24 gondolas featuring different Pixar characters and the iconic face of Mickey Mouse remaining on the Paradise Bay side of the wheel.

Ariel’s Grotto and Cove Bar

Ariel’s Grotto restaurant and the Cove Bar will be transformed into a new lounge and grill offering sparkling views of Paradise Bay and the new Pixar Pier. Cove Bar will be reopening briefly in April before closing again for its permanent transformation.

Treasures in Paradise

No major details have been given yet for what will be happening at this location.

Paradise Pier Ice Cream Co.

No details officially confirmed yet for this location, either.

Toy Story Mania!

Toy Story Midway Mania will apparently be losing the “Midway” in its name to match its Florida counterpart. It remains open through the re-imagining of the land.

With most of the land currently closed the attraction’s regular extended queue space is unavailable so it’s now being re-routed up to the Cove Bar’s former seating area.

You now enter at the Cove Bar which is setup with some tape switch backs which then lead you down the boardwalk…

You round the bend, sticking to the water’s edge and down into the land, sticking to the right wall…

You keep making your way past the Incredicoaster refurb walls, sticking to the right wall…

The queue then travels past Triton’s Carrousel and Don Thomas before meeting a new set of walls that turn to take you straight into the attraction’s main queue….

King Triton’s Carrousel

For now this remains open. No official details have been revealed but concept art shows a Toy Story remake of the attraction with a large Jessie figure.

No Through Access…

Western End of Pixar Pier

Paradise Park

The Pixar Pier transformation stops at the Silly Symphony Swings. So basically the walls above are the end of the area to be updated. The rest of the former Paradise Pier land becomes a new land called Paradise Park.

Goofy’s Sky School has returned from its refurbishment.

Elena of Avalor meet and greet seems to be continuing on past the Festival of Holidays.

The regular menu is back at Paradise Garden Grill. The meat here is always pretty good but the bland rice and uninspiring tabouli make this location an easy skip. Better sides and we’d be all in.

Looks like the festival shop is sticking around, it’s selling Mermaid merchandise for now.

Galaxy’s Edge

Construction continues on the new Star Wars themed land.

Galaxy’s Edge Collector Cards

The first set of Galaxy’s Edge collector cards has been released at Star Wars Launch Bay! They feature concept art and short teases of what to expect in the new land.

The backs of the new collector cards are pieces of a map of the Galaxy’s Edge. We were told that there will be four sets released between now and the opening of the land in 2019. So we’re playing the long game here. Here’s the map so far…

There’s four cards in each pre-packaged set that they are handing out for free at the Star Wars Launch Bay. We were told there was only one set for now. However, Becca and I had two sets that were almost identical except for one card between both sets.

It’s unclear if this first “set” is comprised of these five cards. But if you want all five of these cards you’ll have to have at least two of the packages that they are handing out because each package comes with four cards. It’s luck of the draw.

Galaxy’s Edge Merchandise

A selection of LANDING 2019 merchandise has hit the shelves in Tomorrowland to promote the upcoming land…

Disney California Adventure Refurbishments

The early months of the year are always a time for refurbs and there’s a bunch going on at DCA…

Grizzly River Run

Redwood Creek Challenge Trail

Sonoma Terrace Beer Garden

This area is also behind walls. A Cast Member there told us that they were going to be expanding the area and make it more accessible to the walkway. Apparently, a new menu offering is also coming.

Disneyland Refurbishments

Disneyland has a bunch of refurbishments going on too…

Holiday version of ‘it’s a small world’ remains until Haunted Mansion returns from its refurbishment.

Splash Mountain

Dumbo the Flying Elephant

A new queue and shade structure is coming for Dumbo!

While Town Square is behind refurb walls there are no Flag Retreat Ceremonies scheduled so Old Glory remains lit through the night.

Around Disney California Adventure

Christmas is gone and although it’s still winter, you’d be hard-pressed to tell from the vibrant blooms!

FastPass distribution for Toy Story Mania is now near Ariel’s Undersea Adventure as the area is re-themed.

Nick and Judy remain popular.

High tide in Pacific Wharf. With Grizzly River Run closed, it’s water is drained here.

Around the Resort

The VOID has officially opened featuring STAR WARS: SECRETS OF THE EMPIRE. Per Disney, “this first-of-its-kind immersive experience transports guests deep into the Star Wars universe and allows them to walk freely and untethered throughout the multi-sensory experience—through sight, sound, touch, smell, and motion. In groups of four, teams will go undercover as stormtroopers to capture Imperial intelligence vital to the budding rebellion’s survival.”

The experience is also available at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World.

Work is underway at Mickey and Friends in preparation for construction on the upcoming parking structure to be built over the Pinocchio Parking lot.

Following the complete re-brand approach to the Disney Stores concept, Disney announced this week an upcoming re-design for the WORLD OF DISNEY shops at its domestic Disney Parks. Both World of Disney store locations in Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort and in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort will be reimagined beginning in mid-February 2018.

According to Disney, “When the interior redesign work is completed, guests will discover the products they love from Disney Parks in a dynamic and distinctly Disney retail environment.”

A new Disney merch cart was added near La Brea Bakery selling some of the most popular impulse buys.

Extra capacity added for ticket sales.

These will both need to be updated soon.

Ridemakerz is now officially closed to make way for a new dining concept.

Build-A-Bear is also now permanently closed, making way for a new dining concept.

D-Street has also gone the way of the dodo, it will become a Disney Home store opening next month.

Splitsville now has furtniture! Some of its show lighting was also turned on. Looking really great!

Tulips have made their yearly debut at the Disneyland Resort, this time at Downtown Disney since most of the usual planters at Disneyland are currently behind refurbishment walls.

We opted for dinner at Storyteller’s Cafe buffet.
