This evening marked the very final for Running of the Goats at Disneyland’s Big Thunder Ranch. Big crowds arrived this weekend to take in the sight one final time before the entire area is closed to make way for the upcoming Star Wars expansion.

The small but popular cherished tradition took place each evening after the petting zoo closed when it was time to take the goats back to their backstage homes for the day.

The petting zoo is just one of the casualties of the cuts coming for the new Star Wars expansion coming to Disneyland. The entire Big Thunder Ranch will be going by the wayside which includes not only the petting zoo but the popular barbecue restaurant, as well. The backstage stable facilities for the livestock are also going away as part of the expansion. New homes have been found for the petting zoo’s animals and several of the goats will be finding their new home in Murrieta.

Bringing Star Wars into Disneyland is no small feat and will bring other major changes to this side of the park, as well, including year-plus closures to Disneyland fixtures such as Fantasmic! the Disneyland Railroad, the Mark Twain paddle-wheeler, and more. Tom Sawyer Island will be made significantly smaller as well to make more room at the back of the park.
