A largely underrated not-so-hidden gem at Disneyland is one of the park’s tallest structures and yet thousands of park guests walk right past every single day it without giving it a second glance. The Adventureland Treehouse is a walk-through experience that lets you explore the childhood dream of what it would be like to live in a tree.
Here’s an in depth look at the entire walkthrough experience of the Adventureland Treehouse at Disneyland
What to Expect
Loosely inspired by the SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON, the arboreous abode finds its lore nestled in an original story featuring a family with a mother, father, daughter, and twin sons who call the lush expanse their home. The attraction originally opened in 1962 and was converted in 1999 to celebrate the animated film TARZAN.
Father is a renaissance man with a sign touting his achievements not just as the master chef for the faily but also an artist, craftsman, and inventor. From details we’ll see scattered around the house it also appears he and the family may have some involvement with the Society of Explorers and Adventurers which is part of a Disney Parks lore spread across several Disney attractions across the globe.
If you’re curious the classification for the massive tree? Disneydendron Semperflorens Grandis!
The Old Waterwheel
The newly returned feature on the treehouse features a bamboo structure that is powered by the magical waters from a brook that flows under the treehouse.
The spinning waterwheel powers the conveyor system that not only transports water up to the top of the tree but also creates the energy needed to power the various inventions and gadgets that the family has created.
Kitchen
The kitchen features some of Father’s inventions assist with the preparation of meals. The cozy setup features various wares crafted from found objects plus his most ingenious and useful creation, a frosty icebox!
It’s also here that the family’s pet ostrich Jane finds her roost — you might spot some of her eggs in the icebox! Her name is also a tribute back to the Tarzan story the previously occupied this space.
Workshop Studio
The rest of the base around the tree is a wondrous workshop space featuring hobby and craft space with sketches, pottery wheels, and easels with paintings created by the illustrious family.
Mother’s Music Room
In the mother’s room, you’ll find musical instruments including a harp, lute, guitar and organ, which she plays to fill the home with cheerful melodies.
It’s here that eagle-eyed guests will spot tributes to books for both Tarzan of the Apes and Swiss Family Robinson.
Daughter’s Astronomer’s Loft
Nestled in the highest part of the home, you will find the daughter’s room, as she has illustrated it here in her own abstract style. An admirer of celestial bodies and their magnitudes, motions and magic, her room provides a clear view of the beautiful night sky. It is here where she spends her time tracking stars, planets and comets with her many telescopes, no doubt making new discoveries which she logs in her notebooks, sketches and artistic recreations. Several pieces of Society of Explorers and Adventurers reading materials and ephemera are also strewn about.
Twins’ Room
The twin brothers have packed their space in the treehouse with an impossibly large collection of plants and animals, all living in harmony with one another.
Reading Nook
A small space in the tree’s lofty boughs has been carved out as a small respite for reading, outfitted with some peaceful records to help set a serene mood.
