Remember the IMAGINEER THAT! interstitials from the Disney Channel in the early 2000s? They featured a funny little host named Tom Morrow 2.0 who would drive around EPCOT and share details about how Disney made the magic at Disney Parks. Well, Disney has decided not only to reboot the show but also the original animatronic host, as well!
Here’s everything to know about the return of Imagineer That!
Bruce Vaughn, President and Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Imagineering, opened the inaugural return with an introduction setting up the return of the show. As with the segments that ran in the early 2000s, the videos are only a few minutes long.
Any questions? Tom Morrow 2.0 was happy to jump right back into the swing of things answering a fan question: “How do Imagineers think up the new rides?” The robotic host met with one of Imagineering’s Senior Creative Director s, Jonathan Friday to share some of the core steps.
- Pre-Blue Sky: Stage before brainstorming begins.
- Blue Sky: Research and idea development—Imagineers travel, watch films, read books, and explore stories to inspire concepts.
- Concept Phase: Teams determine how the experience will look, sound, feel, and even smell; sketching, sculpting, and visualizing the attraction.
- Feasibility Phase: Testing if the ideas can realistically be achieved.
- Design Phase: Developing detailed plans and documents.
- Production & Construction: Designs are built, installed, integrated, tested, and adjusted before being shared with guests.
No set schedule for episode release has been confirmed by Disney but we’re so excited not just for a retro throwback but also more peeks into the creative process at the Mouse.
