We made a side quest on our visit to Disneyland to complete all of the special MagicBand+ interactions available during the Disneyland 70th Anniversary Celebration. There were eight special touchpoints and five freebie cards to be collected!

Here’s everything you need to know about the special MagicBand+ interactions during the Disneyland 70th Anniversary Celebration.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This posting was updated with additional details and photographs on 7/20 and 7/5.

What to Expect

The only thing you need to enjoy the new MagicBand+ interactions (and collect your freebies) is a MagicBand+ connected to your Disney account. Any MagicBand+ can activate the sound effects but you’ll only get the freebie cards with bands linked to your Disney account.

Proceed further for a more in depth breakdown of the process.

Where to Start

Head to any of the designated MagicBand+ locations around Disneyland — there are five in total which you can learn more about below. At each stop, tap your MagicBand+ to unlock unique interactions and effects inspired by some of the park’s opening-day attractions. At select locations, you’ll unlock some customized freebies.

Below is a recap of our experience!

SPOILER WARNING

Consider this your first and final warning the rest of the article will contain PHOTOS and DETAILS on how and where to complete each leg of the journey!

The Quest

There are five total pieces of ephemera you can collect and each will feature a customized greeting that identifies (based on the Disney account linked to your MagicBand+) whether you are a “Special 70th Anniversary Guest” or “Valued Magic Key Holder.” It’s our understanding that there is a special greeting for Club 33 and Disney Vacation Club Members, as well.

Main Street, USA

Head to Tilly’s ticket booth at the Main Street Cinema where you’ll find the special illuminated 70th touch point. At this location, you will unlock a special commemorative admission ticket to the Main Street Cinema.

  • Details on the front of the card include a “Celebrating 70 Magical Years” tagline with the Disneyland logo and the customized greeting. Each original land from park opening is listed at the bottom.
  • Details on the back of the card include an “Admit One, ten cents” callout for the show “A New Verse – A Tribute to the Sherman Brothers” show (a reference to the final verse for “it’s a small world” written by the late Richard M. Sherman)  and a ticket ID of “12051901” (Walt Disney’s birthday)

Frontierland

Find the booth at Silver Spur Supplies (celebrating The Golden Horseshoe, the Mark Twain Riverboat and the Disneyland Railroad) where you’ll find three special illuminated 70th touch points.

  • Details on the Mark Twain card include vintage-style artwork of the steamship with the back looking like a boarding pass aboard the vessel. Details include the voyage date of July 17 (when Disneyland opened) and an ID number of 71755 (Disneyland’s opening date) for passage around the Rivers of America. An additional ticket number of 402 is listed. Each original land from park opening is listed at the bottom.
  • Details on the Disneyland Railroad card include vintage-style artwork of an unmarked locomotive with the back looking like a First Class Fare dated “Dec 05” (Walt Disney’s birthday) and a ticket ID number of A5525 (Walt Disney’s marriage date to his wife Lillian). Each original land from park opening is listed at the bottom.
  • Details on the Golden Horseshoe Revue card include retro style artwork of a piano player in a horseshoe plus a tribute to “70 years of rootin’ tootin’ fun” along with the House Rules which include No spittin’ cussin’, drinkin’, gamblin’, or shootin’. Plus, there’s a reminder to wipe your boots. Each original land from park opening is listed at the bottom.

Adventureland

Head to the Skipper Lockers at the Jungle Cruise (near Indiana Jones Adventure) where you’ll find the special illuminated 70th touch point.

  • Details on the front of the card include branding for the “Jungle Navigational Co. LTD” for their Riverboats with headings to Schweitzer Falls and the Congo and an ID number of 1911 (a likely reference to when Walt Disney moved away from his boyhood home in Marceline, MO to Kansas City where he would pick up an interest in the world of entertainment).
  • Details on the back of the card include a commemorative boarding pass to Admit One on a VIP Tour on the World Famous Jungle Cruise aboard the Mekong Maiden. The non-transferrable ticket promotes “freight, passengers, and guided excursion tours.” Each original land from park opening is listed at the bottom.
  • The customization on this ticket is randomized. Aside from the greeting specific to the admission type on your MagicBand+, it will also randomly assign you to a different Jungle Skipper crew whose names you can also see in graffiti on the lockers: Pach, Troop 5511, Upstream Society, Bote Crashers, and Aves Raras.

  • There are no cards distributed here but each touch point activates a different shield which opens up to reveal a fun animated diorama with music paying homage to each of the opening day attractions.

More Magic to Unlock

As a reminder, unrelated to the above special interactions, MagicBand+ will also activate with vibrations and lights during select 70th Anniversary entertainment including Paint the Night, Tapestry of Happiness, World of Color Happiness! and Wondrous Journeys. Learn more about each of those offerings and how to enjoy them with our guides below.

More to Know

  • You will need a MagicBand+ to participate — it doesn’t have to be the commemorative Disneyland 70th Anniversary design.
  • Make sure your MagicBand+ is fully charged and linked to your Disney account before your visit.
  • You are allowed to collect one freebie per day per band per Disney account although, for the most part, the cards will be identical every time so there’s not much of a reason to get more than one card.
  • Of course, theme park reservations and valid admission for Disneyland Park are also required for entry

See it for Yourself
