For the 2025 Butterbeer Season there’s possibly more ways to consume butterbeer than ever before and the liquid gold is represented in various forms from drinks and ice cream to candy and pastries. To help you prioritize your way through the myriad of sweets, we’ve ranked everything from our favorite to least favorite.
This year, Universal Studios hosted our visit to try several of the offerings but we’re happy to share our completely honest thoughts on everything we tried.
Ranking What We Tried
Most of the magical butterbeer offerings are available all year but a few are just here for a limited time from March 1 through Saturday, May 31, 2025 and both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort are celebrating.
What is Butterbeer? The flavor is reminiscent of butterscotch and shortbread and the magical drink has become an undeniable theme park sensation with a bunch of ways to enjoy the iconic flavor. Here’s our ranking and quick reviews of everything we’ve tried.

Hot Butterbeer
From the moment we first tried this during the holiday season we knew it was a winner and when it went year-round it seemed like many others agreed. This is our top favorite way to consume the drink but be warmed it is VERY sweet. And, yes, we have gone to Starbucks not far from the entrance of Wizarding World to order a shot of espresso to add to the drink. Highly recommend.

Butterbeer Ice Lolly
We swear Universal has two different suppliers for this treat because we had it last year and the ice cream was icy and tasted more like coconut but we’ve also had bars where the ice cream was creamy and tasted much more like butterbeer. The former is a hard pass but the latter is one of our favorite ways to consume butterbeer.

Frozen Butterbeer
On a hot day, this one hits the spot. The butterbeer flavor is more mellow here and not as rich making this one the most refreshing of all the drinkable versions.

Butterbeer Potted Cream
It’s so incredibly decadent but think of a nice rich custardy flan with a load of butterbeer flavor and a butterbeer syrup to top it off and you get the idea here.

Butterbeer Cream Puff
This is new for Butterbeer Season 2025 for a limited time. The salty syrup on top with the cream is nice but the refrigerated cream puff texture is off-putting.

Butterbeer Soft Serve Ice Cream
This one is perfectly delightful but the butterbeer flavor somehow always tastes slightly like rootbeer to us. Not a bad thing but the butterbeer flavor is slightly off.

Cold Butterbeer
It’s the original, without this we wouldn’t have a full fledged butterbeer season but she just doesn’t hit like her siblings.

Butterbeer Caramel
It’s a nice huge piece of caramel with a noticeable-but-not-distracting hint of Butterbeer.

Butterbeer-Flavored Candy Bar
It’s not bad but the most offensive part is the $10 price tag. Get literally anything else!

Butterbeer Fudge
Although last on the list, it’s not bad by any means. It’s very rich and very sweet but not necessarily strong on the butterbeer flavor.
Golden Butterbeer Mugs
New this year, you can get your hands on the snazzy new gold Butterbeer mug, it comes with butterbeer at time of purchase but will set you back $38.
Butterbeer Vibes
If you want the most magical way to enjoy your butterbeer treats, head straight to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in the morning and secure yourself the coziest sun-drenched seats inside of the Three Broomsticks restaurant. Nestle in on a chilly morning with a hot butterbeer and a cream puff or start your day off with an early meal. Just let the pictures speak for us…
