Parkside Market is the latest in the evolution of Downtown Disney into a more destination-worthy option with shopping, dining, and entertainment to tempt the wallet. The new food hall offers three new dining options plus a full bar and lounge and we had the chance to visit on its very first day of soft open to try the new menus.

Here’s a look at everything we tried at the new Parkside Market in Downtown Disney.

What to Expect

The new Parkside Market building is situated approximately where the former AMC theater once sat. It’s adjacent the LEGO Store and across from the Disneyland Resort Monorail station making it a convenient location to grab a bite and get back to adventures inside the parks.

There is a food court on the lower level featuring three different dining locations: Sip & Sonder, Seoul Sister, and GG’s Chicken Shop. While the entire upstairs portion of the space is the Vista Parkside Marketplace.

On the lower level, you are free to order from any of the three locations as you would in a food court. You will be given a tracker that you can place on your table and your food will be brought to you. There are several tables available on the lower level and you’re also free to head upstairs for more seating.

On the upper level, there are two outdoor patio terraces with plenty of tables (and even some electric sockets) as well as the main dining room for the Vista Parkside Marketplace. If you are seated at the tables or booths upstairs, you will have a server who can take your order for both the bar located on this level as well as any of the three restaurants downstairs.

On our first visit, our group decided to sit at the Vista Parkside Marketplace to enjoy the full expanse of the menu offerings a la carte.

Sip & Sonder

Decadent drinks are on the menu here including Sweet Rhapsody latte made with lavender and mocha; the Hummingbird which is a Jamaican sorrel slushie; or the Nod to Nicaud (in honor of Rose Nicaud, regarded as the first coffee vendor in New Orleans) which combines cold brew, chicory and cane sugar. The location also features pastries including butter croissant’s and classic cinnamon rolls.

Sip & Sonder was started by founders Amanda-Jane Thomas and Shanita Nicholas and is a Black women-owned brand that has been recognized as one of the best cafés in L.A. by the Los Angeles Times.

What We Tried

As a start to our culinary adventure, we had the simple Regular Drip Coffee ($4.25 for the 12oz) which tasted great although we were a little surprised to see in our bill a 75 cent charge for the half and half which seemed a little penny pinchy for us. We also had A Serenade ($7 for the 12 oz) which was a honey lavender latte and was exquisitely sweet and satisfying without any one flavor overpowering the other.

Honestly, we can see ourselves coming back here to try some more of the offerings.

Seoul Sister

Korean bibimbap rice bowls with a California twist are on the menu here with highlights including Bulgogi Beef Bowl with kimchi, green onion and a garlic soy sauce and Garlic Chicken Bowl with carrots, broccoli, furikake and a sweet soy sauce. A small selection of appetizers and drinks are also available.

Seoul Sister features a menu was curated by Executive Chef Kelly Kim.

What We Tried

Overall, we found the food here good but a little overpriced for what you get. The Korean-California fusion became evident with small choices to vary up traditional bibimbap with unexpected tweaks like hard-boiled egg instead of fresh-cracked and the inclusion of pickled ginger.

We found the Beef and Egg ($19) bowl to be perfectly suitable but weren’t blown away by the offering — it reminded us of the food at Lucky Fortune Cookery which isn’t a bad thing except for the price tag that comes with it. It features bulgogi beef with carrots, kale, hard-boiled egg, sesame oil, spicy gochu seoul sauce — with a choice of rice, japchae noodles, or salad. Unfortunately, for our Pork Belly ($20) bowl, the “crispy pork” was actually mostly just pieces of dry meat. It comes with with carrots, snow peas, pickled ginger, apricot ginger sauce — also with a choice of rice, japchae noodles, or salad. The fried Dumplings ($8) with beef and vegetable filling were also a big hit at our table.

All the flavors here were good but not something we’d be clamoring to visit Downtown Disney to enjoy.

GG’s Chicken Shop

Chicken chicken! The menu here features a straight forward assortment including the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Sandwich with pickled daikon slaw and kewpie mayonnaise; a California Salad with avocado and sunflower seeds; and tempting extras like crispy Brussels sprouts with chili lime salt or the Oatmeal Cream Pie with Mickey Mouse-shaped sprinkles.

GG’s Chicken Shop was created by Michelin Star Chef Lee Wolen alongside James Beard Award-winning restaurateurs Rob Katz and Kevin Boehm under the Boka Restaurant Group.

What We Tried

Similar to Seoul Sister, we found good options to dine on here detracted only by the respective price tags for everything on the menu. It’s not unusual for modern restaurants to NOT include sides with signature entree but at this location, it just makes the final bill even harder to swallow.

We found the Original Fried Chicken Sandwich ($18) to be well balanced with all its flavors including bread and butter pickles, cabbage, spicy mayo, hot honey, and brioche bun. The Sweet and Spicy Fried Chicken was also a nice contender (that we didn’t find to be particularly spicy) boasting pickled daikon slaw, soy cucumbers, Kewpie mayo, and brioche bun. The biggest setback was having these ordered upstairs at the Vista Parkside Marketplace, our sandwiches arrived a little less than hot (but not cold) and unfortunately, having sat inside of to-go wrappers, everything got just a little soggy. Still the flavors were decent without necessarily standing out either.

The Waffle Fries ($8) are fairly standard issue but at an absurd price considering any side sauces will cost you an extra $1 each — that includes BBQ, Garlic Ranch, and Honey Mustard. They do offer ketchup at no extra cost but, again, just a little penny pinchy for us. However, we were VERY happy with the Sweet Corn Elote ($7) which features a nice combination of lime, chipotle, cotija, and cilantro.

Overall, the food is good but the price tags make this location an easy skip unless we’re craving more of that Sweet Corn Elote.

Vista Parkside Market

This location takes up the entire second floor and at its simplest is a bar and lounge with a robust array of cocktails, mocktails, wine and beer. The whole second level has a vibe that is somehow both casual but also swanky and elegant. The outdoor patios especially are a nice escape with one having partial views of evening fireworks and the other facing the Disneyland Hotel featuring convenient electrical plugs — helpful for a quick mobile power up or to charge a laptop.

The main difference with this location over the other three is that the inside tables and booths are table service meaning your food and drink will be handled by a server. Of course, you’re free to order from the bar yourself or any of the downstairs eateries and bring it up, as well.

What We Tried

Other than all the food we tried above, we also had a nice Morning Mist ($20) which comes with the popular gimmick of a tableside presentation with a dome of smoke to reveal the spirited libation. It’s made with Garrison Brothers Small Batch Bourbon, Earl Grey, Angostura, and orange bitters.

The swanky environs match the swanky prices for beverages which range from cocktails at $18 to $20 and the $70 Mountain Climb bourbon tasting flight. Beers range from $10 to $14 with mocktails coming in between $8 and $12.
