After confirming a reopening of Shanghai Disneyland and a phased reopening for Disney Springs at Walt Disney World, Disney has been light on details for the Disneyland Resort on the west coast. California is joining other states with more measured and stringent procedures for reopening amdist continued COVID-19 coronavirus concerns which puts a little bit of the decision-making outside of Disney’s control.
However, Disneyland Resort President Rebecca Campbell offered a few words of encouragement today without being able to offer much in the way of specific details. Her words expressed to the community follow below; we’ve bolded certain parts of her statement for emphasis.
Earlier this week, Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced that Shanghai Disneyland will reopen on May 11. And today, the company announced that Disney Springs, the shopping, dining and entertainment district at the Walt Disney World Resort, will begin the phased reopening of select locations on May 20. While California is in a much different phase of reopening than Shanghai and Florida, these are still encouraging signs for all Disney fans, and even more glimmers of hope as we look forward to recovery in other communities around the world.
It has been nearly two months since we closed the gates of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim due to COVID-19, so I wanted to give you an update. As we await further guidance from experts and state leaders, we are in discussions about how to prepare the resort for our eventual reopening. As you might imagine, returning to the Disneyland Resort after COVID-19 may look a little different… but it will still feel like a Disney park experience. Walt Disney created Disneyland as a place where children and their families could enjoy experiences together, making memories that last a lifetime. And that will never change.
On the Disney Parks Blog, you will find a post from our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pam Hymel, detailing some of our plans as we move forward. I wanted to share it with you so you can see how we are proceeding. While we do not have a reopening date set, I assure you that we will be well prepared to share Disney magic as soon as that happens.
