The Disneyland Resort is a busy place, not just because of summer crowds (although most Saturdays seem to feel uncharacteristically less busy than usual) but because construction projects abound.
On this visit, we’ll take an updated look at the new parking structure shooting up next to the existing Mickey and Friends location. Plus, there’s more and more going on as Disney prepares for next year’s opening of the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge expansion.
Other on-going projects include refurbishments of Matterhorn Bobsleds and the soon-to-close Enchanted Tiki Room and Haunted Mansion. We’ll also catchup on the myriad of projects going on at Downtown Disney bringing new locations, refurbishing existing ones, and the big new fancy hotel coming soon.
Of course, we’ll have a nice merch run at the end for you plus a bunch more! ENJOY!
Parking, Whoas!
The new parking structure at Mickey and Friends is shooting up super quick. Whoa!
Based on concept art Disney has released of the new structure, we did a quick animated mockup of how construction might be shaping up.
Our best guess so far on what to expect with the new parking structure going up next to Mickey and Friends Parking Structure. pic.twitter.com/b8UfnoYlwA

Construction is visible from the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure.
There’s an opening in this part of the new structure that seems like it could be a new passage for the trams.
Will there be any pedestrian connections between the new structures? Seems like there might not be since the ramp for the new structure is inbetween the new structure and the existing. That could potentially be one big headache if you forget which structure you parked in! It’s bad enough forgetting which level, now you might forget which structure!
You can see the the new ramps starting to take shape quite quickly.
This is the smaller of the two ramps. The second ramp will shoot up right over this existing ramp. This is the same setup as the current Mickey and Friends parking ramps.
Here you can see the second ramp also starting to take shape, it will go right up over the lower ramp.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
The other big construction project at Disneyland is the massive expansion for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Around Disneyland
Castle is looking better now that a lot of the gold finial details have returned but it still looks like it could use some thorough TLC.
Walls are down near Tarzan’s Treehouse and it looks like the walkway has been made just a tiny bit wider.
Every little bit is going to help once the expected crowds for next year start to turn up to check out the new Star Wars expansion.
Mon Ami! The Enchanted Tiki Room flies away starting August 8 but worry not! The fine, feathered, friends will return following its refurbishment.
Tropical Hideaway construction is also still well under way. Expect a new dining patio here with views of the the Jungle Cruise river.
Peeky peeky.
They’re opening up the vista quite a bit on the river removing the walls here that hid Aladdin’s Oasis. Should be quite lovely to sit at the tables here and look out on the river.
River around the Tiki Room is drained, looks like some vintage concrete graffiti is visible. =)
Matterhorn Bobsleds are currently closed for refurbishment.
Carrot Cake Churro in New Orleans Square. Good but not remarkable.
Donuts, anyone?
Pixar Shorts Film Festival has taken over the Tomorrowland Theatre. It now exists in both DCA and Disneyland.
The Astraeus Telescope hanging above the Starcade lights up inside the newly opened indoor queue for Space Mountain.

Lower level of Starcade remains inaccessible.
I swear a tree is missing here. Why do I even notice that??

Asada Nachos, please! Thank you! Have you been to Lamplight Lounge yet? What’s your favorite dish?
Jessie’s Critter Carousel continues along. It reopens next year.
The new fountain in the Incredibles Park is looking quite stained. It appears to be a rust problem.
Rust all over the Incredibles logo, too.
Looks like the Pixarmonic Orchestra are still unfortunately put into this space.
Memory Refreshers were working this weekend.
We ordered the Imaginary Pal which was Pink Lemonade topped with Grape slush. It was also topped with a piece of rainbow cotton candy but that literally dissolved before the cup even got into our hands leaving the mushy fondanty flower just sitting sad on top.
The Pink Lemonade was not bad but the Grape was much tastier. We wished it had more of the latter.
Cheese?
Walls have finally gone up around It’s Tough To Be A Bug, we might be seeing demo finally starting here very soon.
The entirety of “a bug’s land” is closing September 4.

All of the closed Downtown Disney locations remain closed, no construction on the hotel in sight.
Ballast Point and Black Craft, not much visible progress at this point.
Wetzels reopens this year.
Salt & Straw debuts later this year.
Sanuk remains open inbetween all the construction.
Napolini and Naples refurbishments continue. The latter remains open during the construction.
